15 Star Trek LEGO Sets Everyone Wants
8. The Next Generation Tricorder
Not every set can be a ship or one packed out with minifigures.
As has been seen with the popularity of The Lego Group's botanicals range and the aforementioned Nintendo Gameboy, the phenomenon could spin off into a line of Star Trek accessories. Again, this would be a perfect place to utilise light and sound, especially with either an Original Series or TNG tricorder.
The flip action of the latter to open and light up just seems an essential feature. The range of buttons might be a decal hell, yet having an official, buildable prop is something a lot of Trek fans would love to display. There is a range of curved pieces available, so the edges wouldn't need to be the right angles that fans might expect. An additional piece (or two) would offer the ability to convert the standard unit into the medical version, complete with a detachable scanner.
An Original Series device would be significantly larger and more of a solid block save for the top flap, yet the interior of the body provides chances for little winks and nods to the show. As with the Pixar lamp, the use of smaller smooth pieces could be used to represent ranks, characters and episodes across the 79 classic stories, adding that touch of nostalgia.
