15 Times Rick And Morty Was The Best Show On Television
11. Wubba Lubba Dub Dub!
In addition to sci-fi tropes, Rick and Morty loves to poke fun at common TV cliches, and that includes the need to shoehorn in a catchphrase. Throughout the first season, Rick suddenly decides his catch phrase is "Wubba lubba dub dub" out of absolutely nowhere, making a goofy face as he says it directly at the audience.
It's complete nonsense and there's absolutely no reason for it, but it's a way for the writers to comment on shows forcing in things like this that are clearly just to put on T-shirts and merchandise. Rick constantly breaks the fourth wall with his catchphrase, in Rick Potion #9 saying "Wubba lubba dub dub! That's my catchphrase, remember? Remember how I cemented that catchphrase?" Later on after being captured, Rick looks right at the audience and says, "What's the opposite of wubba lubba dub dub, am I right ladies and gentlemen?"
And then there's an incredible payoff to this at the end of the season when Rick gets a new catchphrase. "I love my grandkids. Psych! Just kidding, my new catchphrase is 'I don't give a f***!'" What a way to end a season. Let's hope Rick continues that in Season 2.
