20 Animated TV Shows That Are Practically Flawless

1. BoJack Horseman

X-Men Animated Series
Netflix

For six seasons and nearly eighty episodes, BoJack Horseman told one of the most beautiful, human and economically well written stories ever put to the small screen, animated or otherwise.

The tale of an increasingly irrelevant TV star suffering from crippling depression and an unbeatable battle with addiction -- as well as his many imperfect friends and sometime foes -- BoJack Horseman's sharp social commentary, worldbuilding, and sensitivity made it a rare show that actively improved itself year-after-year.

Deeply personal, thought-provoking, and darkly amusing, Raphael Bob-Waksberg's heartbreaking masterstroke never allowed itself to feel weighed down by its themes or surreal animation, remaining throughout its run as fun and playful as it was bleak and confrontational.

Perhaps putting it above The Simpsons in the vast pantheon of animated TV shows seems like a stretch, but the truth is it's a no-brainer: BoJack Horseman, with its inventive visuals, compelling characters, and timeless, no holds barred exploration of the human condition, really is the finest animated series ever made.
