20 Best Superman TV Episodes Of All Time

17. "Clash" - Justice League Unlimited

One of JLU's strengths, due to its massively expanded roster, was its ability to focus itself squarely on one or two characters. Episodes like "This Little Piggy" was a humorous romp between Batman and Wonder Woman, while episodes like "The Greatest Story Never Told" put neglected characters like Booster Gold in the spotlight.

"Clash" was one of those episodes, which featured Superman in conflict with Captain Marvel. This concept was something that was brainstormed during the original run of Superman: The Animated Series, but licensing issues and the lack of a strong story kept it on the backburner until 2005.

Superman spends a majority of the episode being poked and prodded by Lex Luthor, who even spends time on a Crossfire-style show doing his best to get under the Man of Steel's skin. It's brilliant in that it shows that, yes, even Superman can be pushed to the brink.

Luthor's constant hammering at Superman, along with Captain Marvel's boyhood naiveté, brings the two powerhouse heroes into conflict. The beautifully animated fight scene between Superman and Captain Marvel is the true highlight, serving as both eye-candy and establishing just potentially how dangerous these heroes can be.
