20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About South Park
17. The Tourette Syndrome Association Praised The Tourette's Episode
Usually when South Park parodies a person or organization, they don't take it very well, but with Le Petit Tourette, the exact opposite happened. In the episode from Season 11, Cartman pretends to have Tourette syndrome so he can use it as an excuse to say whatever he wants. You might expect it to be insensitive and for people with Tourette syndrome to be extremely offended, but actually, the Tourette Syndrome Association praised Parker and Stone's work here.
The TSA released a statement after the episode aired in which they said they expected it to be extremely insensitive, but it was actually "surprisingly well researched. The highly exaggerated emphasis on coprolalia notwithstanding, for the attentive viewer, there was a surprising amount of accurate information conveyed." They felt the episode was a funny and clever device to get information about this syndrome out to the public.
That's just how South Park operates: when they make fun of something, they're really going to make sure they do it in an accurate way.
