20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Breaking Bad

11. Hector Was Going To Be The Big Bad

AMC

Over the course of the show's run we met various bad guys who served to make Walt look slightly less evil. First there was the psychotic Tuco, then for much of the run Gus Fring calmly terrorised us and, once he'd been two-faced, Jack Welker stepped onto the scene. Like with any series, however, things could have gone very differently. Gus was only initially set to appear in a handful of episodes, but Giancarlo Esposito delivered such a brilliantly restrained performance that the producers wanted to bring him back in a more permanent capacity, with the actor actually negotiating an even bigger role for the character than was intended.

This development meant that the originally planned overarching villain, Hector Salamanca, had a massive alteration in direction, ultimately becoming Walt's (sort of) ally. It would have been interesting to see Tio play a more active role, although if we had we may never have got that face.
