20 TV Acting Performances That Are Totally Flawless

4. Jon Hamm - Mad Men

Tony Soprano The Sopranos
AMC

Few characters' names are as synonymous with the golden age of TV than Don Draper. The lead protagonist of Matthew Weiner's influential masterpiece Mad Men, Draper was the head of his own advertising firm during the 1960s and lived a life characterised by debauchery, alcoholism and regret.

With a strict business code and a relatively strong moral compass - especially when compared to his more obtuse colleagues - Draper was a sad, broken, passionate guy who was constantly at odds with his own life and the changing face of American business and politics.

Jon Hamm played Draper for the show's excellent seven season run, charting the character's highs and lows as he got divorced, slipped into alcohol dependency and struggled to maintain his family life with his booming career.

Up until Mad Men first aired, Hamm had worked a series of odd roles in film and TV, but had been struggling to find his big break. Needless to say that Don Draper allowed the actor to break into the big leagues, and Hamm refused to squander the opportunity every step of the way.
