20 TV Acting Performances That Are Totally Flawless

13. Michael C. Hall - Dexter

Tony Soprano The Sopranos
Showtime

Dexter - also known as the show that gave its legion of fans serious trust issues - was at once one of the most enrapturing and illogical shows on TV. For eight seasons, audiences were treated to the deliciously dark exploits of Dexter Morgan, a forensic analyst who moonlighted as a serial killer...who only killed other serial killers.

It was a brilliant concept, executed to perfection during its first four seasons before slowly falling apart, and at its centre was Michael C. Hall. Hall's job was not an easy one, as he had to play an emotionless, psychopathic killer and still make him likeable and entertaining.

Thankfully, Hall was more than willing to rise to the challenge, so much so that even when the show fell off the rails, he was still there giving it his all and playing one of the small screen's most enduring pop culture icons.

At once darkly hilarious, sinister and occasionally cold, Hall was impossibly good in the lead role, making the show's upcoming revival at least marginally hopeful.
