20 Valuable Life Lessons Doctor Who Has Taught Us

8. Loneliness Is Not The Doctor's Friend

Companions choose to travel with the Doctor for a multitude of reasons. Many of them wish to see the universe, while others simply yearn for adventure. Some have a romantic attraction to the Doctor, which, while mostly never reciprocated, doesn't stop the companion from trying. There have been some that have chosen to go with the Doctor to keep him from being alone. It's implied, and sometimes shown, that when the Doctor travels alone, he does not hold back on his vengeful actions, especially those Doctors after the Time War. As such, the Doctor's companion is many things to him. A friend, a sounding board, even someone he can always demonstrate his intelligence to. However, the biggest contribution companions make is to be his conscience. They are there to make sure the Doctor doesn't take things too far whilst protecting the Earth and the rest of the universe. There are many times fans have wondered exactly what the Doctor would have done if he hadn't had a companion there to pull him away from the figurative edge. Lesson Learned: Everyone needs at least one close friend to be able to share things with, especially at those times where you aren't sure if your decision is the right one.
