The Emmy-winning Bill Cobbs appeared in the fourth season episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, Daedalus, as Dr. Emory Erickson - the human inventor of the transporter.

Cobbs' career was as long as it was varied, appearing across multiple genres and in multiple mediums. He started his professional life in the army, before making the jump at age 36 into acting. That said, he had already begun practising stand-up comedy while in the service, so when he joined the Negro Ensemble Company in New York in 1970, he was well-positioned for a switch to scripted drama.

He worked with Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Moses Gunn, and many other greats throughout his career. His film debut came in 1973's The Taking Of Pelham One Two Three, where he had a single line. He recalled his entire family and friend groups coming together to watch him in his big screen debut - and the reaction to his 'Hey, man. What's goin' on?'

He continued to act until 2023, with his final role in the mini-series Incandescent Love. He won his Daytime Emmy in 2020 for his role in Dino Dana: Dino Flyer.

He was 90 years old when he died.
