James B. Sikking appeared as Captain Styles, the smug captain of the NX-2000 Excelsior in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock. There are few who have seen the film who won't remember his sanctimonious - perfect - delivery of 'Kirk, you do this, you'll never sit in the captain's chair again.'

Sikking was a character actor who had two hugely popular roles in Steven Bochco productions. First, he was Lt. Howard Hunter on Hill Street Blues, then he would go on to appear as David Howser on Doogie Howser, M.D.

Sikking was a workhorse, appearing in dozens of television series and films through the years. He attended university with Harve Bennett, which led to his role in Star Trek III, though he would go on to work with Leonard Nimoy several more times.

He was an activist, raising funds to battle Cystic Fibrosis, raising funds for the Susan G. Koman Foundation, which seeks to aid breast cancer patients. as well as reading to children via the SAG Book Pals Program.

He was 90 years old when he died.
