25 Most Hotly Anticipated New TV Shows Of 2020

7. Green Arrow & The Canaries

Arrow Season 8 Black Canary Laurel Lance
The CW

The other show being lined up to replace Arrow at the centre of The CW's Arrowverse line-up is spin-off Green Arrow & The Canaries, a cumbersome title for could end up being the best superhero show on TV.

Arrow fumbled the Black Canary character badly in the early years of the show, with four different women eventually laying claim to the codename.

There’s Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), who fought by Queen's side under the name Canary; Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), who is murdered trying to cope with her younger sister's legacy after her death; Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy), a metahuman who takes on the Black Canary identity after Laurel's death; and the Laurel Lance of parallel Earth-2 (also Cassidy), a supervillain who later reforms and takes on her doppelganger's name to atone for her crimes.

Meanwhile, Queen has passed on the Green Arrow mantle to his daughter Mia Smoak (Kat McNamara). That sets the scene for an all-female superhero show starring McNamara, Cassidy and Harkavy, hopefully with frequent appearances by the resurrected Sara ‘White Canary’ Lance… because why the hell not?

All four are exceptional performers who could carry a show on their own. Lotz in particular is incredibly charismatic, while Cassidy has quietly developed into one of the best actors in genre television.

As if all that wasn’t enough, the outfit bears a striking resemblance to DC’s Birds Of Prey ensemble - insert the extraordinary Ben Lewis as Mia’s genius half-brother William in the Oracle position and the premise is perfect.
