A traditional NBC multi-camera sitcom about a dysfunctional family doesn’t, on the face of it, sound like a whole lot. But there’s more here than meets the eye.

For a start, look at that cast. Adam Pally and Abby Elliott play Dave and Rebecca, a couple who, after years of being parents, find that the down time they were expecting is interrupted by his parents, who turn up on their doorstep unannounced… and completely broke.

Pally and Elliott are mainstays of broadcast comedy, but casting Fran Drescher and Steven Weber as the deadbeat parents that they can’t turn away makes this a must-see show: Weber in particular is one of America’s best kept secrets, a brilliant, charismatic and talented actor.

It’s airing in February next year as a mid-season replacement, and good things are expected...
