25 WORST Episodes Of Star Trek EVER

11. Spock's Brain - TOS

Star Trek Spock's Brain
CBS

This infamous episode frequently tops the polls for worst entry in the Star Trek canon. It's so devoid of logic (no pun intended) that even the 'so bad its good' moniker is hard to apply here. Although the scene where Spock talks McCoy through conducting brain surgery on himself is as strange as it is interesting.

This was the first episode of the show's third and final season, which had received severe budget cuts and had been moved to a terrible time slot. It would become synonymous with bad episodes, although there is a silly charm to it that has grown with the years that have passed. For its infamy, there is not much to say about the episode.

Spock's brain is stolen, but Vulcans can survive for a time without them. Fair enough. The crew get the brain back, and McCoy gets his brain zapped so that he can complete the surgery and save Spock. So, the first example of McCoy putting Spock's mind back into his body - Star Trek does enjoy recycling its plots!

There is plenty of comedy to be enjoyed in the episode and it's legacy is one of the better ones in Trek history. When looked at in the context of the Original Series and the background of what was happening at the time, it can be endured. But in all honesty, the episode is about Spock having his brain ripped out and then he's just fine. I find that....illogical.
