8. The Cybermen Gaining Super Speed For One Episode
Our second "WTF?!" moment featuring the Cybermen and it's another example of an iconic villain being given a fresh new upgrade which ultimately only lasted for the grand total of one episode. On paper, Series 7's Nightmare in Silver had all the makings to become a bonafide Doctor Who classic. Neil Gaiman was back after his previous offering, Series 6's The Doctor's Wife, had been lauded by critics and fans alike and this time he brought an adventure in which the Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald journeyed to an abandoned theme park where an old enemy was lying in wait. It was always going to be a rollercoaster but it ultimately wasn't the sort of rollercoaster that fans had been expecting. The Cybermen had suddenly acquired 'super speed' for apparently no reason whatsoever and they were back to normal upon their most recent appearance in the Series 8 finale so there's another one for the list of 'Things The Doctor Who Writers Want You To Forget'. Way ahead of you, guys.
