2017 was a huge year for Stephen King adaptations, with the good (It, Mr Mercedes), the bad (Dark Tower, The Mist), and the ugly (THAT scene in Gerald's Game).

2018 might not have anything on that scale, but it is giving us a very intriguing new TV series, Castle Rock, which tells an original story within familiar settings and characters from King's books.

Season 1 of the show, which has been cooked up at Hulu by J.J. Abrams and Sam Shaw (Manhattan), sees Andre Holland's Henry Deaver return to the town of Castle Rock after receiving a mysterious call from Shawshank Penitentiary.

Thus begins an "epic saga of darkness and light" that will incorporate familiar themes from King's work, along with a cast including Bill Skarsgård, Melanie Lynskey, and Sissy Spacek.
