3. Humor Amidst Chaos

Whether it's Jessie randomly yelling "yeah, science!" at Mr. White, or yelling "yo" along with a colorful metaphor I won't spell out, that's just a small example of many for the perfectly timed comedic moments of this series. Moments that may not even be intended to be funny from the writer's standpoint but in so many ways, some more subtle than others, the pitch of the show's humor hit's a home-run when needed to alleviate the darker themes in the storylines. Everyone from Aaron Paul, Bryan Cranston, Dean Norris, Jonathan Banks, and of course, Bob Odenkirk, all deserve the highest praise as far as I'm concerned for adding a layer of humor to this series. Odenkirk's Saul Goodman character, is nothing short of comic gold at times in many episodes that help to shine a bright light on a dark moment. (And many more names I've not listed here) I could launch into some tirade of specific moments I found funny in this show, but I'll spare you all of that. I'll only mention one that no matter how many times I see it, I genuinely laugh out loud each and every time. During the season two episode Four Days Out, after Jessie and Walt get through a marathon session of cooking meth in their Winnebago, it won't start. This strands them miles from any help of any kind. Once Walt uses his science brains to use the break pads to act as a charging mechanism for the vehicle's battery, Jessie throws him this classic, curious deadpan look and asks him if they're going to make a robot instead. That scene is equally priceless every single time I watch it, and it's a confirmation to the stellar acting chops of Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston that something like that can be so hysterical even though the two characters are knee deep in a situation that should be no laughing matter. All in all, this is a funny TV show given the core of its themes. Seriously, name me a show that even though the subject matter is as dark and risky as a series can get, still manages to deliver plenty of laughs from season one onward? I simply can't think of one other than Breaking Bad. As we move on it's now appropriate to look into one of the final two main ingredients that make this show worthy of being missed...
