Steven Spielberg and dinosaurs. It€™s a combination that has worked out quite successfully in the past, but despite considerable hype, Terra Nova, which the legendary director helped bring to the screen in an executive producer role, was a disappointment from the start. With a large budget and an impressive array of visual effects, the show€™s premise was that in an overpopulated, polluted earth of the future, selected individuals were chosen to make the journey to a parallel earth, albeit one in the midst of the Cretaceous Period, 85 million years before our current present. Cue the threat of both dinosaurs and a group of individuals who oppose the colonisation of the parallel world, preferring instead to use its resources to try and salvage the show€™s present. In theory, it€™s an interesting premise, but after a promising pilot, the quality of the series' writing quickly began to fall, causing its cancellation. Netflix were said to be in talks to revive the series, but ultimately passed on the opportunity, leaving another show with unsolved mysteries in the wilderness.
