6 Podcasts Being Adapted To TV (And 5 More That Should Be)

6. Will Be: Welcome To Night Vale (FX)

Limetown Show
FX

One of the biggest podcasts of the era, Welcome To Night Vale is often compared to Twin Peaks, with its quiet desert town setting a hotbed for strange supernatural activity played completely straight to the point of silliness by the cheerful, velvet-voiced radio show host, Cecil Palmer (played by Cecil Baldwin).

From the first episode's "Dogs are NOT ALLOWED IN THE DOG PARK," the town continues to unravel terrifying mysteries and cheerfully swerving around any sensible explanation, while also serving up a variety of great music during its "weather" segment.

Night Vale was a revelation for how podcasts could find an enormous fanbase, with its popularity on social media like Tumblr a significant aspect of their still ongoing run. Fan engagement was so active that the series was able to do live shows across the USA and other parts of the world, as well as branch out into additional media such as a book and other narrative fiction podcasts.

The series doesn't seem to have a fixed endpoint or overarching plot, but often pulls from existing story threads, with fans latching onto Night Vale's quirky cast of townsfolk, especially that of velvety-voiced Cecil and now-husband, Carlos the Scientist.
