7 Ups & 5 Downs From The Arrowverse In 2019
4. Weak Villains At The Start
This reflective piece will be doing a lot of comparing in terms of each show's first half seasons of 2019 and their second. And as far as villains go, it was mostly a good year for each show. Unfortunately, it didn't start out that way.
While Neron wasn't Legends' worst villainous offering and Supergirl was absolutely slaying things with Agent Liberty and Lex Luthor, it was stalwarts Arrow and The Flash that opened things on a sour note with disappointing villains.
The Flash was still stuck on the mind-numbingly dull Mr. 'This Ends Now!' Cicada who showed up, grunted a few syllables and then disappeared when overpowered on repeat until he was replaced with his niece Cicada 2.0. who virtually did the same thing. Meanwhile, Arrow attempted to change things up by having multiple villains take over from Ricardo Diaz but ended up dropping the ball in its development of Emiko - resulting in the rest of the Ninth Circle becoming mindless minions who the viewers just didn't care about.
This certainly set the stage for a revival for both shows in the winter season (which we'll get to later), but none of these villains had us on the edges of our seats.
