7 Ways AMC Should End The Walking Dead
6. The Walkers Evolve
There's one major plot point running through both the comic and TV show that's often overlooked, yet changes everything entirely: the walkers aren't eternal. They're decaying more and more with each passing day, and at one point in the future they'll be completely ineffectual.
This is established stronger in the comic than the show but the same rules apply; with most of the population already zombies, winning is mostly a question of weathering the storm, which is admittedly easier said than done.
Of course, jumping so far into the future where the shamblers have simply decayed to the point where they're no longer threatening would be a little anti-climactic, but showing them evolving into something more dangerous - or maybe even more human - could make for an interesting ending.
The zombies of The Walking Dead have always been a static force of nature, and finishing the show with an evolution of how they fundamentally work could make for a "happy" ending, bringing a promise of hope that's a little less hokey than the heroes suddenly discovering a cure.
