8 Best High-Fantasy TV Shows

It could not have been anything else. Game of Thrones was (and still is) a cultural icon, rivalling intellectual properties such as Star Wars and Harry Potter in regards to its position in pop culture.

Unfortunately, the show drastically declined in quality as the series progressed and this is unfortunate as it has soured a lot of the brilliance that the world of Westeros had. Despite this, however, it is undeniable that the unbelievably ambitious series ranks as the best fantasy piece of TV.

The characters, the intense world-building, the fun and the harshness of the cultures all came together to compliment what was already excellent source material and bring it into the mainstream. The show was a cultural highlight of the decade, and this truly goes a long way to highlight the impact that fantasy can have. Much like Lord of the Rings Game of Thrones proved that the genre could not be ignored.

Unfortunately, it did ruin itself to many in its ending, but that doesn't destroy the legacy that it has left. So many shows exist purely to attempt to capture some of the magic that GOT had. The Witcher and Dark Crystal themselves likely would never have seen the light of day were it not for Game of Thrones.
