Daniel Kaluuya was one of several guest stars in the David Tennant Easter special Planet of the Dead. Playing Barclay, one of the bus passengers who's transported to a desert planet surrounded by flesh-eating stingrays, he was later suggested as a possible UNIT recruit by the Tenth Doctor. We shouldn't expect to see Kaluuya head up a UNIT based spin-off any time soon though, given how his career has skyrocketed in the years since.

The actor has won both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars over the past four years. Best Actor for Get Out, Jordan Peele's landmark horror film. He's working with the director again in this year's Nope and also reprises his role as W'Kabi in the next Black Panther film. Kaluuya won an Oscar again last year for his role as civil rights activist Fred Hampton in the blistering political drama Judas and the Black Messiah.

Many people talk about Andrew Garfield and Carey Mulligan when they look at the big stars who had small roles in Doctor Who, but it's Daniel Kaluuya who's really gone on to some incredibly rich and rewarding work. Here's to much, much more.
