In July 2007 Mad Men premiered on the American Cable Network, who would have expected that 6 years later we would be awaiting the seventh season as the show having won much critical acclaim. John Hamm who plays Don Draper, has been an Emmy nominee for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series every time since 2008 and the show winning the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy is only touching the surface of the success of this show that has had since it began. In the past six series we have seen change of Peggy from a nervous secretary to a confident copywriter, the change of name to Sterling Cooper & Partners but Don, well he never changes. Don, Peggy, Roger, Pete and Joan may get all the plaudits in terms of award nominations, but in the world of mad men we have been introduced to many more great characters that don't get the recognition they deserve. Here are 8 supporting characters who stole the show.
8. Paul Kinsey
Played by Michael Gladis, Paul Kinsey had an interesting development through the first three series. He seemed to stifle as Peggy rose through the ranks at Sterling Cooper, in his time there as well as growing an Orson Welles beard in series two he campaigned on the civil rights movement and was clearly on the back of a bad relationship with office manager Joan Harris. Though he survived the merger, his rivalry with Peggy was one that he came out second best as he was not asked to be part of SCDP. And we thought that might be it for Paul, but in series five in 'Christmas Waltz' his finest moment yet arrives. Paul Kinsey meets up with Harry Crane and invites to an Hare Krishna meeting. There is some shock when we first see Paul in his his robe and his shaved head - much different from the beard and suit he sported in the first three seasons - that added some light relief in an episode where Lane Pryce is facing severe money troubles. It is a rather sad end for Paul as Harry Crane gives him money to travel to Hollywood to show writers his dreadful script.
