4. Under The Dome

An interesting choice, I'm sure you'll agree. After all we haven't even got to season two of this show yet. I was tempted to put The Following on here instead ; it certainly would have had a satisfying ending had it not got a second season and the cult of Joe Carol had (mostly) successfully played out, even if some of the followers were more interested in the chief villain himself. It even had a great slasher-movie style closing scene, but then season two came along and in no small part to the two new serial killer twins, I find myself enjoying the second season even more. Besides, a great show...perhaps if one of the best TV shows in years hadn't come along at the same time. I'm talking of course about Hannibal. So back to Under The Dome. It showed early promise with it's almost Lost-style mystery and sense of doom. The military assault which decimated half the land around the dome also wracked up the tension. Based on the Stephen Kind novel where the events play put over days it seemed a natural conclusion that the show could wrap up it's core story by the end of the first season. But then it became obvious that with a season two we were just going to be left hanging and suddenly with new directions such as the ultimately pointless plot around Maxine's arrival, it became apparent that there was no closure in sight. Talking of Lost, there was an immediate sense of mystery-fatigue as the season ended. While I enjoy the show, I feel two seasons are sufficient and I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels away. Because otherwise it will become one of those shows that only the die-hard fans stick around till the end when it should have concluded satisfactorily in those thirteen episodes.
