8 TV Shows That Are About To Become Movies

6. Downton Abbey

The Downton Abbey show concluded its run on Christmas Day 2015, but its popularity has remained at sky-high levels ever since. A movie adaptation was confirmed earlier this year - for release in September 2019 - and with most of the original cast set to return, the film should be quite the rewarding payoff for patient long-time fans.

Actors like Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith and Michelle Dockery will all be reprising their roles, while the likes of Lily James and Ed Speleers will unfortunately not be involved. It's also being scripted and produced by Julian Fellowes (who created the show), so it should have the same feel and style as its small-screen sibling.

The story will continue on from where the show ended, and while plot details are yet to be disclosed, a major feature-length movie like this will no doubt be heavy on the drama, with some juicy arcs for the characters involved.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
