8 Ways DC Could Actually Save Titans
3. Change The Colour Palette
One of the oldest criticisms of WB's new DC films is that the colour pallet is way too dark. The DC Universe itself is home to worlds both light and dark, but so far - save for Wonder Woman and the upcoming Aquaman and Shazam - WB have elected to paint the entire mythos in a dark, blue-grey tint.
The same approach has manifested in Titans, and though that may work for Gotham City or the astral plane in which Raven's father Trigon resides, it shouldn't be the only visual on display. Beast Boy and Starfire both look out of place in this world, with both characters lending themselves better to brighter surroundings, and thus the show's issues become more apparent.
The world being built for Titans doesn't look like DC's own - a mythos that is home to gods, monsters, heroes and villains. Instead, it appears dour, miserable, and completely cynical, lacking any of the optimism the original Titans possessed in abundance and in turn misrepresenting the property on a fundamental level.
There's nothing wrong with dark surroundings, but in portraying a coalition of DC's youth, a different approach should've been called for.
