6. The Walking Dead

Where We Left Off: The zombie apocalypse keeps on apocalypsing. Rick and his group of survivors have struggled to integrate with the colony in Alexandria. Deanna, the colony leader, was arguing for Rick's exile, but recent horrible events appear to have changed her mind. And another group of survivors, the Wolves, may be even more dangerous than the Walkers.

Where We're Going: As Rick tries to keep his promise to teach the Alexandrians how to survive, the threats are poised to get bigger: the Wolves will return, and Season 6 will open with the biggest assembly of walkers to date. But the biggest challenge Rick may face is political: his leadership role is far from secure. Morgan Jones, the first friend he made after waking up in the zombies' world, now doubts Rick's sanity. As ever, the series has loosely followed the comic book's plot (emphasis on "loosely") and this attempted coup is right on schedule.

Latest News: Most of the Walking Dead news of the moment focuses on the show's new spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead, and both shows' somewhat disproportionate tendencies to kill their black characters.

Tomatometer Score: 90. Some critics have argued the show has never been better. Its view of society feels more nuanced, and it moves at a much brisker pace - no longer shambling but breaking into a run.

Returning: October 11.
