9 Reasons Doctor Who Flux Could Be The Best New Who Series

8. Great Writing

There have been a few complaints that episode one didn't make sense and too much happened. It's true of both things, but as part one of six it would be pointless to give away all the narrative points in part one.

Overall, it feels like the flow and pacing is great for what it needs to be. The characters, even evil ones, are captivating and make us want to know more about them and their part to play in these events.

The villains have been written very well; Sontarans no longer exist just to get laughs. Swarm and Azure are particularly terrifying because they are so unpredictable and neutral characters like Karvanista have interesting stories that keep us invested in them.

The Doctor and Yaz have been written beautifully so far this season. Jodie Whittaker has got some great stories to work with and is doing such a good job at delivering. Yaz is also getting an interesting story; she has clearly thrived from travelling alone with the Doctor and the twists thrown at her leave us all desperate to know more.

The saddest part is that Chibnall is playing to his strengths with this serialised format. It really shows and it works very, very well. Had he been brave enough to do this from the start of his era, he might have made a bigger impact a lot sooner.

Simon is a writer, cat dad and presenter of a geeky radio show with his husband. He loves Doctor Who (except 10 who can get in the bin…only joking.) He idolises Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lara Croft and would 100% be a Sith Lord in a galaxy far, far away. He wishes life was like a musical so he’d actually be a good singer.
