Doctor Who: 20 Things You Didn’t Know About A Christmas Carol

9. It’s Matt Smith’s Most-Watched Solo Outing

Doctor Who Christmas specials usually pull in mammoth audiences, probably because everyone's too full of turkey to get up and change the channel. A Christmas Carol pulled some monster ratings even by these standards.

Over 12 million people tuned in to see if the Ponds would survive their honeymoon, making it the fourth most-viewed episode of NuWho up to that point.

It's also the most-watched episode to star Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor – more or less.

The only other Smith episode to draw a bigger crowd was The Day of the Doctor, but since that also featured David Tennant's return as Ten, A Christmas Carol remains Smith's biggest audience on his own.
