So far this particular corner of the Marvel Universe has been home to a conflict between the US government organisation SHIELD (SSR, as it was called in Peggy's time) and HYDRA, a terrorist group with its roots in Nazi Germany, but extending way beyond that in fact, in last year's Captain America: The Winter Solider, it turned out HYRDA had been infiltrating SHIELD for decades. And if that wasn't bad enough, it seems like SHIELD in the present day haven't been paying enough attention to another faction in what might turn out to be a three-way fight. As it happens the big bad (or at least the MacGuffin) of Agent Carter looks to be another evil organisation bent on destroying the world: Leviathan. But who are Leviathan? They've not been mentioned in the MCU before, but they're all over Agent Carter, with apparently telekinetic members and some nefarious irons in the fire. In the comics Leviathan is basically the Russian equivalent of SHIELD or HYDRA, meaning Anton Vanko might be part of this whole bag. Oh and they are tied into the Brood, the Alien-like extraterrestrials that routinely bother the X-Men. Since those rights are tied up at Fox, there's a good chance Leviathan might have something to do with that alien sub-plot on Agents Of SHIELD right now...
