Agents Of SHIELD: 10 Things That Need To Happen In Season 3

3. Villains To Be Scared Of

The Marvel Cinematic Universe does a lot of things right – its films are perfectly structured in terms of plot, the mixed tones are balanced brilliantly, the casting is top notch, they look beautiful – but there's one major blind spot, which is replicated in their TV shows. The villains are always really, really boring, with the occasional exception.

There's a reason people latched onto Loki so strongly, and why Wilson Fisk was one of the most acclaimed parts of Daredevil: amidst the miasma of Iron Man's production line of evil corporate suits, Thor's big scary identikit monsters, and the shadowy conspiracies SHIELD find themselves up against, they're refreshingly different and genuinely interesting.

Which also makes them genuinely interesting. The antagonists in Agents Of SHIELD have always been a little flimsy, even by MCU standards. Poorly-drawn, vague, or just not at all compelling, even with actors like Bill Paxton and Kyle MacLachlan. As with most problems SHIELD has, they need to commit properly. In this case, to a real, scary supervillain.
