American Horror Story: Apocalypse - What Does The Ending Really Mean?

3. Constance Langdon Is Alive

American Horror Story Apocalypse Finale
FX

Constance Langdon was one of the only characters to escape the Murder House season of the show with her life intact. Arguably one of the show's greatest ever creations, the nosy neighbour took it upon herself to raise Vivien Harmon's second child, who would eventually grow up to become the Anti-Christ.

In Apocalypse's sixth episode, Return To Murder House, however, we learn that Constance took her own life, as she was unable to cope with the realities of raising a cold-blooded murderer.

However, now that Mallory has stopped Michael's evil nature in its tracks, it means that Constance will no longer be driven to suicide, therefore the character is alive once more. Whether or not we'll see Constance again in a future season of American Horror Story will largely be up to Jessica Lange, but the changing of events in Apocalypse Then ensures that it's at least a possibility.

It's somewhat tragic that Constance survives in the new timeline, as the version of the character that we met in Return To Murder House seemed delighted to have been reunited with the ghosts of her dead children.

In the new timeline, the character will return to her home, all by herself. It's a good thing from a story point of view, however, as Constance is an incredibly tragic individual so therefore the profound loneliness that she'll now undoubtedly suffer from will only add to the complexity of her character.
