American Horror Story: Ranking Sarah Paulson's Characters From Worst To Best

While Bette was the sweeter sister, Dot opted for more of a take-no-prisoners attitude. Unlike Bette, she wasn't idealistic nor did she dream of being separated from her twin, but rather accepted the cards she had been dealt and tried to make the best of them.

In the same way that Bette developed over the course of the 13-episode season, Dot also underwent some character development. She realised that, while it's good to be realistic, there's nothing wrong with hoping for more out of life and, because of her sister's sacrifice, she discovered that the world had plenty to offer her, in spite of how she looked on the outside.

Paulson was very good at differentiating between the two characters, and despite their identical appearance, it was very clear which twin was on the screen due to the actress' superb characterisation.
