Angel: Every Season Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Season Three
It may seem odd to some that Season Three is being placed above its predecessor, but there is a reason for this: character. Season Three does everything that Season Four tried (and failed) to do when it comes its characters, giving each member of Angel Investigations moments to shine and grow like never before.
Whilst Wesley and Angel's biblical falling-out doesn't sound like a good idea on paper, given all they've been through together, it works wonders on the screen. The acting is stronger than ever from Boreanaz and Alexis Denisof, and the feud makes the whole season more personal and emotionally charged than ever.
On top of this intense and shocking arc, Darla returns with surprising news and Angel must cope with parenthood despite it being "impossible" for vampires to have kids. It's a nice added layer to the titular character's story.
Even better, though, is the increased screen presence of Fred and Lorne, who get some moments to show fans what they're really made of and what they can bring to the team.
Sure, Holtz is a boring villain (though he sure had potential going in) and older Connor proves to be almost as misjudged as Season Four's efforts, but the emotional journeys of Season Three make it one of the show's best additions.
And, seriously, "Waiting in the Wings" is a stunning episode worthy of a re-watch once you've read this list.
