Episode: 3x23 – My Name Is Oliver Queen

Combatants: Oliver vs. Ra’s al Ghul

What Happened: Determined to save the citizens of his city from being exposed to a deadly biotoxin, Oliver faces off with Ra’s al Ghul one last time.

It is a mark of the seriousness of the situation that neither man stops to remove his shirt before drawing his sword.

Oliver’s month of training in Nanda Parbat proves insufficient to outfight the Demon’s Head, and Ra's disarms Oliver. As Ra's swings for the killing blow, however, Oliver catches the blade in his hand. Mirroring the duel that very nearly cost him his life, Oliver first slices his opponent in the side and then runs him through with the sword. The Demon's Head dies upon the blade of the man who had survived his sword.

Why It Was Great: What’s a no-killing vow when it comes to saving a city from a madman with centuries worth of training and endless resources? Although the lighting could have been better – Ra’s chopping the blade off of Oliver’s sword genuinely looked like he was channeling Darth Vader and chopping off Oliver’s hand – Oliver killing the Demon’s Head was the ideal ending for the third season.

Although driving off into the sunset didn’t hurt.

Winner: Oliver
