Arrow: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best
22. William Clayton
After a long-teased introduction, William played a recurring role in the middle of Arrow's run, occasionally popping up whenever he was in danger. However, following the death of his mother on Lian Yu, he went on to play a much bigger role in Seasons 6 and 7.
The problem with the young version of William was that, for the most part, the writers struggled to treat him like a real character, which is a shame because Jack Moore delivered some great performances throughout his all-too brief run on the show. As a result, his presence was a plot device to cause and fuel conflict and, when it finally seemed like they had given him something stronger (presumably his struggles with his sexuality), he was written off the show altogether.
The adult version fared much better. Now played by Ben Lewis, William's role in the flash-forwards has provided the character with a long overdue meatier role - but the fact that the majority of his rich character journey took place off-screen still feels like a major missed opportunity.
