Battlestar Galactica: 10 Most Disturbing Episodes

2. Someone To Watch Over Me

Battlestar Galatica Starbuck Maelstrom
Universal

As the saga draws near it's conclusion, Starbuck finds herself bereft of purpose and questioning whether or not it was her body on the devastated Earth. Is she real, or is she just a memory given form. While contemplating this in Joe's hanger bar, she makes friends with Slick, the man playing the piano. They talk about music, childhood and memories of times gone by. Starbuck talks about how, while her mother was abusive and mean-spirited, her father was always kind to her. He too, was a musician, a piano player.

Meanwhile, Sharon 'Boomer' Valerii (the one version of the Number 8's that is still loyal to Cavill and the hostile Cylons) has infiltrated the fleet and intends to abduct baby Hera Agathon. She is a prisoner to start with, but tricks Galen Tyrol into helping her escape. She finds her opposite number, Sharon 'Athena' Agathon, and beats her unconscious, just before Athena's husband Helo comes back to their quarters. Boomer pretends to be Athena, has sex with Helo and then, while he's asleep, steals baby Hera.

As Galen realises that he's been deceived and Sharon damages Galactica in her escape attempt, Starbuck finally recognises the piano player as her father. The tune that he's been working on is incomplete, but apparently finished by a drawing made by baby Hera. As it all comes crashing down on Starbuck, Slick simply isn't there anymore. Perhaps he wasn't there in the first place. Perhaps he was a real as she is.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
