Battlestar Galactica: 10 Most Disturbing Episodes

1. Razor

Easily the best entry that the Battlestar Galactica franchise managed, Razor was also one of the most distressing. Told across various timelines, the story of Admiral Helena Cain and her powerful warship is one of warning and horror. While Galactica took a moral high-road with the influence of President Roslin, helping to shepherd a civilian fleet, Pegasus took a darker path.

When they encountered surviving civilian ships, they stripped them for useful parts, useful people and fuel. When they realised that they had a Cylon in their midst, they tortured, beat and raped her. All of the actions of Pegasus under the leadership were motivated by rage and vengeance, which Adama and Roslin did not let Galactica succumb too.

We also see flashback to the First Cylon War, the body horror of the creation of the first Cylon Hybrids and Helena Cain's own loss of her sister. Harrowing and powerful, Razor stands up as the entire franchise in a nutshell, exemplifying how dark humanity can fall when it's back is up against the wall.

While there were moments of hope and reassurance within this show, ultimately, Battlestar Galactica remains a grim reminder of what we could become. So say we all.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
