Better Call Saul: 10 Things You Need To Know

5. Vince Gilligan Isn't The Showrunner

Whilst Breaking Bad mastermind (and former X-Files alumni) Vince Gilligan is credited as co-creator of Better Call Saul and had a hand in writing and directing the pilot, he isn't going to be in the same position he was for the previous show: namely, showrunner. As in, the guy who runs the show, corralling the writers and crew into deciding what will happen in the series. He'll remain on board as an executive producer, but will perhaps be less involved with the day-to-day running of Better Call Saul. After all, he'll be busy with the buddy cop show he has set up at CBS €“ Battle Creek which, with him on board, could actually be pretty good €“ so the new series might not have quite the same feel. Well, maybe, but it probably won't be wildly different either. Gilligan is technically co-showrunner with Peter Gould but, given his other commitments, Gould is probably going to be the real leader. And considering he's the guy who wrote Saul's debut in Breaking Bad, along with a bunch of other episodes, the series is in safe hands.
