5. Billionaires Get Away With Murder
Even for BoJack Horseman, this satire was pretty on the nose. The idea that billionaires can literally get away with murder by law is such a brazen riff on the current political climate that it goes right past ‘too far’ and circles back around to the sweet spot.
It’s in the same ballpark as America hating women more than they love guns last season.
The Whitewhale corporation is clearly supposed to be Disney, gobbling up every competitor and some side companies as well. The Vert & Oli video explaining how capitalists corner the market was just the right blend of charming and unnerving too.
Diane and Guy expect their story to be a massive scoop, but when Jeremiah Whitewhale encourages them to run the story to boost his stock, the penny finally drops. Regular consumers just don’t care, and shareholders like the evil: it shows an uncompromising entrepreneurship.
Case in point: remember all those people who were definitely boycotting Call Of Duty because of the microtransactions? How do you think they’re enjoying the game this week?
It’s such a biting satire because it’s simultaneously too ridiculous to be true, yet not too far from the truth.
