Breaking Bad: 10 Best Musical Moments

2. Walt And Todd's Montage - Tommy James & The Shondells, 'Crystal Blue Persuasion'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxY2cFWqtao One of the defining montage pieces of the show, this scene with Walt and Todd comes in the middle of a tense episode, but brightens it up like a cheerful summer sky. 'Crystal Blue Persuasion' by Tommy James & The Shondells is another song that sounds tailor-made for Breaking Bad. It's a vintage piece of pop with gentle, cascading guitars, happy-go-lucky backing vocals, and a pulse of organ; it's a template employed so fantastically with all music choices, but this one feels especially right. The lyrical suggestion that, "People are changin'" and "Love, love is the answer" perhaps best describes the choices Walt made better than any scene between him and Skyler, and as this tune rings out, it becomes obvious just how important a choice of music can be in a television show: Breaking Bad seems to use music as part of the story itself. There were rumours when this song first came out that it was about drug use. No matter the intended meaning behind it, it will forever be associated with this glorious bit of television now.
