Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 10 Best Characters Who Only Appear In One Episode
6. Ted Buchanan (Season 2, Episode 11)
If there was an award for the creepiest character in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ted Buchanan would be a strong contender. Showing up in the middle of Season 2, Ted strikes up a romantic relationship with Joyce and befriends the Scooby Gang with his friendly demeanour.
But Buffy is not convinced. She doesn’t like Ted at all, and her sense of unease only increases as the episode continues. The golf scene is particularly creepy, as Ted reveals his aggressive nature and his fixation with rules:
“I think you’re missing the point here, little lady. Right is right. Wrong is wrong. Why don't people see that?…Do you want me to slap that smartass mouth of yours?”
In the end, it turns out Ted is actually a robot. But leaving aside this odd plot twist, Ted’s time on the show is loaded with interesting moments. John Ritter nails his performance, balancing his character’s charm with bouts of psychopathic rage. Whilst it wouldn’t have made sense to bring Ted back for another adventure, it’s still a shame he’s only featured in one episode.
