Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 10 Great Moments In Mediocre Episodes

2. Spike Tells Buffy He Has A Soul (Season 7, Episode 2)

Spike’s romantic involvement with Buffy ends in the worst possible way. So, at the end of Season 6, the blond-haired vampire leaves Sunnydale and takes on the Demon Trials in order to regain his soul.

He then returns to Sunnydale at the start of the next season as a new – and slightly unhinged – man. Buffy can hardly fail to notice this change, and Spike finally comes clean at the end of Episode 2:

“Angel, he should've warned me. He makes a good show of forgetting. But it's here. In me. All the time. The spark. I wanted to give you what you deserve, and I got it. They put the spark in me and now all it does is burn.”

Spike continues his monologue as Buffy looks on and accepts the truth. It’s an emotional sequence that benefits from two great performances and a haunting score to go along with it.

The rest of the episode – which centres around an underground monster called a Sluggoth Demon – is pretty dispensable. But it's worth sticking around till the end thanks to this brilliant closing scene.
