Class: 8 Reasons To Be Excited About The Doctor Who Spin-Off
3. It's Being Called "The British Buffy"
By nature of it being set in a monster-baiting high school, Class can't help but recall Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Joss Whedon's magnum opus that revolutionised genre TV back in the late 1990s/early 2000s. Rather than shying away from the comparison, Class is embracing it. Steven Moffat has labelled it as the "British Buffy" and there was even a reference to it in the trailer.
The dynamic of the leads definitely mirrors Buffy. Just as that show started out with four teens and a teacher - Buffy, Willow, Xander, Cordelia and Giles the librarian - coming together to save their school (and the rest of the world), so will Class. Plus, one of them has trouble fitting in due to their secret true nature - Buffy is the Slayer and Charlie, as the trailers tell us, is an alien.
Since Buffy ended in 2003, there have been many pretenders to Buffy's throne but none have managed to match it in quality. While it's a big ask for Class to be the one to finally do that, it could well give it a run for its money.
