Comic Con 2012: Browncoat's Descend on Firefly Reunion

The crew of Serenity reunite for one night only at San Diego Comic Con 2012.

Over 4,000 rabid geeks gathered together at this week's San Diego Comic Con (#SDCC) to witness the 10th anniversary reunion of one of televisions greatest ever ensembles - the cast and crewof short-lived space western, Firefly. The panel, which consisted of creator Joss Whedon, producer Tim Minear, writer Jose Molina and cast members Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau (who seemed uncomfortable throughout), Sean Maher and Adam Baldwin were emotional throughout and delivered a heartfelt thank you to their fans - known affectionately as €˜Browncoats€™ - before entertaining the crowd for almost an hour with funny anecdotes and €˜what if€™ ideas of where the series would have gone had it not been taken off the air. In a particularly tearful moment, Whedon said:

When I see you guys, I don€™t think the show€™s off the air. I don€™t think there€™s a show. I think that€™s what the world is like. I think there€™s spaceships. I think there€™s horses. The story is alive.

Former ship captain Nathan Fillion added:

When Firefly died, I thought it was the worst thing that could possibly happen. And what I realize now, 10 years later, looking out over this room, is that the worst thing that could have happened is if it had stayed dead.

The show was cancelled in 2002 by Fox after only a single series, thus cementing its reputation as an all time cult classic. An action packed, equally awesome feature length movie was released a few years later but no sequel has followed and talk of bringing the show back has long since died down. Sadly neither the series nor the movie had sufficient support first time round to prevent the death of the franchise. A comic book series, set several years after Serenity is in the pipeworks and will no doubt sell extremely well. You can watch the entire panel from SDCC, below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V85olh2aZ34 Given Whedon€™s Midas touch of late could a Firefly return be a possibility or does it remain a pipe dream?
