Disenchantment: 7 Things Season 2 Must Do
1. Stick To Its Guns
Disenchantment is never going to shake off the weight of Matt Groening’s name. The man has created three TV shows, two of which are considered among the best of all time. And the third is Disenchantment.
However, the animation style, voice actors and high concept of the project have seen far more comparisons to Futurama than The Simpsons. That’s great and all, but it can’t just be Futurama doing fantasy. Bender’s Game already did that, for one.
There’s also the fact that at its heart, this is a very different show. You can watch the entire run of Futurama in basically any order. While Disenchantment isn’t Game Of Thrones level complex, it does contain a central story.
While reception to Season 1 was lukewarm, Disenchantment has now been reviewed for two more bites at the cherry. It has the time to let its story unfold.
Dagmar’s poison, Oona’s part in the story, Elfo’s corpse and the mysterious intentions of Luci are all yet to be revealed. The temptation must be there to wrap them up and revert to episodic comedy; but if Disenchantment wants to stand out, it has to keep going its own way.
