10. Father's Day
In this episode, the Doctor takes Rose back to the moment where her father dies. It's not a moment that I would want to visit if I were a companion, but I guess it makes sense. He dies alone, so Rose wants to be there to comfort him. But in that moment she freezes and can't take action. The Doctor gives her another chance and they travel again to that moment. This time Rose doesn't freeze, she actually saves her father's life. This causes a paradox. Time travel rules can be such a b*tch! So now there are these flying monsters that are devouring their reality. What I love about this episode is the depth of caring that the Doctor shows to Rose. He's angry that she disobeyed him, but he figures out that the only way to fix it is to kill her dad, Pete. However, the Doctor doesn't let on and keeps trying to find another solution. He figures out that the creatures have a hard time digesting old things, and since he is the oldest thing there the Doctor lets them feast on him. It buys them some time, but they are still in peril. In the end Pete has figured out that if he lets himself die in the car accident it will fix everything so he sacrifices himself to save everyone. Rose gets to be with her father as he dies and the damage is undone.
