Doctor Who: The 10 Most Pathetic Plans Put Forward By Villains
8. Borusa's Plan for Eternal Rule
Then President of Gallifrey, Borusa, captures multiple versions of the Doctor and a handful of companions out of their respective places in time and space, thereby forcibly recruiting them to work through a series of traps and puzzles in an area known as the Death Zone as part of the Game of Rassilon. The prize for a winner of the Game, legend states, is immortality. Borusa hopes to use the Doctors and company to clear the way and then sweep in at the end to collect the prize. What Makes This Pathetic? Even judging by results makes this one pathetic. The scene of Borusa's capture proves that more than one Time Lord was already immortalised by Rassilon as a stone relief, it seems odd no-one in Time Lord society discovered what happened to other victors, even if Borusa had not personally been alive for an attempt at the Game of Rassilon. But even being doomed from the start is not really good enough evidence. Rassilon certainly had the power to keep his activities hidden, so I'm willing to give Borusa some benefit of the doubt. However, the means to his end seem equally flawed as well. While one could argue that the Doctors and his crew were able to complete Borusa's goal and thus were the right ones to choose, the renegade population appears to be fairly sizeable and leads me to wonder if perhaps there was a more suitable Time Lord for the task. Lastly, it seems fair to find this one pathetic as there is no real need for Borusa's stated objective. While power madness is, in part, an end unto itself, it seems especially silly to desire to be Eternal President of Gallifrey. But enough of plans already doomed for failure at the moment, what about ones that might work too well?
