Doctor Who: The 10 Most Pathetic Plans Put Forward By Villains
4. Solomon's Greed
Solomon, the 24th century pirate from that time the Doctor ran across dinosaurs on a spaceship, is a shining example of greed robbing one of intellect. While it's almost an insult to those with an agenda to call what Solomon did planning, his original idea seems to have been gone like this: take over the Silurian ship; dump the Silurians; then pilot the ship somewhere to sell off the dinosaurs for top credits, or equally desirable currency; then scrap, sell, or trade the Silurian ship and take off with his new found wealth to more piracy. What Makes This Pathetic? Even before the Doctor shows up, Solomon is deep in dino doodoo. He neglected to realise he had no ability to pilot the Suilarian vessel before dumping its original inhabitants, and was headed for collision with a missile from planet Earth. In addition, he was half-eaten and crushed, leaving him immobile and defenceless should another dinosaur have decided he looked like a tasty snack and broken through the limited barriers. Even if somehow he survived the missile, re-entry into the atmosphere, landing on Earth and the dinosaurs, his injuries would have killed him. At least a half dozen other scenarios seem like they might have greater success if he hadn't chosen to kill the Silurians. Sadly, his decision-making skills haven't improved by the time he meets the Doctor. While Solomon's ship was too small to take the lot of dinosaurs, he could have easily held one given the size of his rather large robot friends. He would have had far better success trying to make off with one then he did in his bid for Queen Nefertiti. Even his final moments demonstrate an utter lack of forethought. The Doctor claims the missile is locked onto the bit of machinery he tosses at Solomon, but rather than attempt to dump it out an airlock, Solomon spends his final moments begging for mercy. It's stupid, but then again, Solomon is not the only man to be undone by greed.
